Description
The Globe Arena or Eriksson Globe Arena is a famous Swedish 85-meter arena for various uses in the city of Stockholm. The name of the site comes from the Swedish Globen, that is, “globe”. It is the largest sphere-shaped structure in the world and a venue for concerts and sporting events. The arena itself is located in an area of the city called Globe City, created specifically for it. The total capacity of the site is a maximum of 16,000 people during concerts and 13,850 people during hockey matches.
The construction of the Ericsson Globe was timed to coincide with the 1989 World Hockey Championship. The opening took place pompously on February 19, 1989. The arena is designed to represent the Sun in the Swedish Solar System, the world's largest model of the solar system.
On February 2, 2009, all rights to own this arena were officially transferred to the famous Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson. This explains the full name of the site.
The arena's unique structure consists of 48 curved steel columns. The entire internal structure of the frame consists of lattice aluminum, and the external one is made of thin metal plates coated with white varnish. The diameter of the Ericsson Globe is 110 meters.
Ericsson Globe has hosted many sporting events, such as the Ice Hockey World Championships, the European Volleyball Championships, the European Basketball Championships, the European Figure Figure Championships and others. Celebrities such as Eminem, Cher, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé also performed here.
